Developments in the Fight Against Cancer
For anyone who is told they have cancer, the news comes as a shock. It changes their lives - and also those of their friends and relatives. Patients are often overwhelmed with well-meant advice and a variety of possiblities when it comes to treatment.

Most cases occur in people aged 60 or over. A recent US study ascertained that some 20,000 people die every day as a consequence of cancer. But there have also been successes in the search for treatments. Screening programmes have led to more cases being diagnosed early - and therapies are better able to specifically target the different kinds of tumors.
