Hijacked tanker anchors off Somalia
The United States Navy says a hijacked Saudi supertanker has anchored off the coast of Somalia. A spokesperson for the US Fifth Fleet said the ship was located roughly in the centre of Somalia's Indian Ocean coast line, near Harardheere. The shipping arm of the state Saudi oil giant Aramco said it believed the 25 crew members were safe. Sunday's seizure of the Sirius Star is the boldest attack to date by pirates operating in the waters off east Africa. The ship is roughly three times the size of an aircraft carrier and has 100 million dollars worth of oil on board. Meanwhile, China's Xinhua news agency says a Hong Kong cargo ship loaded with wheat for Iran has become the latest victim of piracy in the Gulf of Aden.
